Northampton Man Charged With Setting Fires In Garbage Cans

A Northampton man was arrested by Southampton Town Police on Friday and accused of setting fire to several residential trash bins in the hamlet.

Joseph Nizza, 25, was accused of setting four residential trash cans on fire between April 26 and May 3, according to police. Following Tuesday’s incident, Southampton Town, New York State and State K9 units canvassed the area, locating Mr. Nizza, according to a press release.

Police said that Mr. Nizza was transported to Southampton Town Police headquarters in Hampton Bays on Tuesday at 1:05 a.m. and charged with four counts of fifth-degree arson, a misdemeanor.

Mr. Nizza was held for morning arraignment at Southampton Town Justice Court on Friday.

Police did not offer any additional details.
