Southampton Town Attorney Tiffany Scarlato Officially Resigns

Jan 13, 2016 10:07 AM

Southampton Town Attorney Tiffany Scarlato has officially resigned from her post at Town Hall.

Ms. Scarlato’s official last day will be Friday, January 15. The Town Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to accept the resignation, which had been expected for several weeks. Immediately afterward, Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman expressed his thanks to Ms. Scarlato, who was not in attendance, for her years of service to the town and wished her luck.

The Town Board also voted on Tuesday to name Kathleen Murray the acting town attorney until a permanent replacement can be found. Ms. Murray had been offered Ms. Scarlato’s position but turned it down.

Last week, Mr. Schneiderman said he hoped have a permanent replacement as soon as possible, but said it might have to wait to make a recommendation until there is a full Town Board in February, after Brad Bender’s former seat has been filled by the January 26 special election.

Mr. Schneiderman has said there are two candidates being interviewed for the position, but declined to name them. However, sources have confirmed that NancyLynn Ferrini, who is currently counsel for the State Senate majority in Albany—and is the wife of State Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr.—is the front-runner for the position.

Church Is A Landmark

The Southampton Town Board voted unanimously on Tuesday to designate the Goodwill African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, on Flanders Road in Riverside, a historic landmark.

The church had been recommended for historic preservation because of its significance to the African-American community on the East End.

Well now we see how Gordon Herr and George Lynch continue to sell out the Democrat party by supporting these non Democrats. So we as Democrats come out and support Democrat candidates, win races by voting the Democrat line, and an important position goes to some non democrat political huckster's wife? I looked at the election results. Our people win on the Democrat line. Not the independence line. I wonder what the pay off will be to those awful conservatives Ed Walsh, Mike Torres and the horrible ...more

You are wrong again CleanWaters. Ive read your posts and all your rah rah democrat rantings. The reason why you got lucky in the last election is because you ran a supervisor candidate in Jay that was formerly a phony republican (but had always been a liberal regardless of the party registration) and people were fooled. I am just glad that this January 26th we can vote for a real republican in Rich Yazstrzemski.

Yes I have voted Democrat since Kennedy and I generally agree with the Democrat party platforms and ideals but what is even more important to me is convictions. I am tired of wishy washy candidates that are not democrats and just say whatever they think we want to get elected. I like someone with conviction and a willingness to stand for what they believe in and I too like Richard Yastrzemski (note the proper spelling). I live in the village and for the last eight years Richard Yastrzemski had ...more

I don't understand all the angst over the conservative endorsement of Julie Lofstad. She runs a family business so she gets the value of a dollar. She is what used to be called a Blue Dog Democrat, socially progressive / fiscally conservative. Works for me.

As for Mr Yastremski: During his tenure at village hall the budget has skyrocketed. The village can manage the ridiculous increases in spending because the taxes are carried by the $50 & $100 million dollar homes along the ocean which ...more

Julie, Why for no experience and no leadership. What does she bring to the table but being a puppet for the democratic line. Look at clean water. He is disgusted with the Democratic Party. Corruption at its finest. Julie is just gonna do whatever her leaders want since they control her. A puppet with no leadership and no experience. This election is easy for me. Yastremzki all the way. Sorry democrats have ruined the town of Southampton the last eight years. HB ran down like Bellport, crime in ...more

Economic sanity bird? How about experience and someone who knows what they are doing? Not some puppet that will do whatever her man Schneiderman tells her to do.

Yes, economic sanity. Since Mr Yastremzki was elected in 2008 the SHV budget has increased by 50% from $18 million dollars to $27 million. The taxpayers of Southampton Town can't afford him.

I find it interesting that the republican candidate oversaw massive tax increases in the village and questionable accommodations to the mayor's developer father-in-law. Haven't we had enough give aways to developers in town hall already?

The other issue I have is why is the only applicant that we hear about is Fred Thiel's wife? Why will the press confirm her application but no one else's? Isn't this a public job? Shouldn't the list of applicants be public knowledge? Why would the supervisor only confirm the Thiel application and no one else? I guess the fix is in and the Southampton Press is helping it happen.

As I have stated in past posts I vote for both party's. The recent trend of Dems disappointing me has been proven by ATH, Flemming, Bender and now Shneiderman. Usually it takes a full term to disappoint me but with Jay it's only taken 2 weeks. I do not trust the Dems selection process anymore. 2 weeks into office and he's already repaying favors. How many favors are left for us to pay for? I will be voting for Rich Yastremski to hopefully pry that automatic 3rd vote from the Jay.

Scarlato's last day is tomorrow. How nice is it that Anna and her side-kick are gone! Where is Anna's other side-kick - Brad Bender, right now? I've heard from people in town hall that Tiffany walked around her office cursing Anna's opponents. Shame our town has had to tolerate these divisive pathogens. Will Scarlato work for the same Real Estate firm as Anna?
VOTE for David Calone in the June primary between long time Democrat Calone vs. Ms. Anna.

Hopefully Tiffany will take her puppet kratoville with her he's a waste almost as much as she was. Julie Lofstad is the only choice for the town board seat, Yastremski has an air about him that he's entitled to that seat and has done NOTHING in the village except raise taxes and said yes to anything Epley wants, we don't need that here at all. I hear he's telling people he wants to stay on the village board if elected to the town seat, can't have your cake and eat it too. Vote Lofstad
