Suffolk County Still Has Not Certified Election Results

Nov 20, 2013 12:11 PM

The Suffolk County Board of Elections still has not certified the results of this month’s general election in Southampton Town, explaining that it must first finish reviewing challenges to ballots in all races held on November 5.

As it now stands, the official vote totals in Southampton Town have given Stan Glinka and Brad Bender the two open seats on the Town Board, with Mr. Bender besting Jeff Mansfield by about 140 votes on Election Day.

When the approximately 900 absentee ballots were opened, the gaps between the candidates narrowed only slightly. Mr. Glinka is expected to be certified at 6,324 votes, Mr. Bender at 6,184, Mr. Mansfield at 6,049 and Frank Zappone, the fourth candidate, at 5,882.

The results are expected to be certified before Thanksgiving, according to officials in Commissioner Wayne Rogers’s office.
