UPDATE: Two To Hospital With Minor Injuries After Water Mill Crash

Aug 1, 2012 10:17 AM

A crash involving a dump truck and an SUV in Water Mill on Tuesday morning resulted in both drivers being taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Southampton Town Police Sergeant Michael Burns said.

A call came in at 6:56 a.m. reporting the accident near the intersection of North Sea Mecox and Seven Ponds roads, and there was a report of a male bleeding from his face and head, according to Sergeant Michael Zarro.

Nelson Abad, 36, of Southampton, was driving a 2000 Jeep Suburban, while Thomas
Amalfitano, 41, of Sound Beach was driving a 1995 Mack Truck, Sgt. Burns said. The directions in which they were driving was unclear. Neither had passengers.

Mr. Amalfitano, who had the right-of-way, told officers that Mr. Abad had pulled out in front of him, while Mr. Abad told police he had no comment at that time.

No tickets were issued as a result of the crash.

Just because you are reading about them almost real time, does not mean they weren't a part of daily life prior to 27eat or the internet.

I think the paper should do a statistical analysis of this issue to resolve the two above mentions differences. It certain does seem like an overwhelming increase but it's true it could be just more access to info.

I think it is time for Southampton Police and Town Board to take a look at the number Garbage/carters doing business in this Town.I have witnessed several near misses involving involving these trucks.speed is certainly one factor and I have yet to see one pulled over by either State,Sherrifs or local police,I am not able to say this never happens but I have yet to see one.
