Veteran planner JoAnne Pahwul will be East Hampton Town’s next director of planning.

The East Hampton Town Board unanimously approved the current assistant planning director taking over as the head of the Planning Department on Thursday, August 1, the day Ms. Pahwul’s predecessor and longtime colleague Marguerite Wolffsohn officially stepped down.

Ms. Pahwul has worked in the town’s planning offices since 1988, steering development plans and applications through the sometimes laborious review process. She has been the assistant planning director since 2003.

“She is the perfect person to step into this position, thanks to her breadth of knowledge and experience,” Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc said of Ms. Pahwul. “That kind of institutional knowledge is very important in that role.”

Ms. Wolffsohn retired last month after more than 30 years in the Town Planning Department, including 15 years as planning director.

Ms. Pahwul will earn a base salary of $97,520 per year as planning director.
