Former East Hampton Town Councilwoman Theresa Quigley Signs On With Saunders

Jan 7, 2014 1:41 PM

Former East Hampton Town Councilwoman Theresa Quigley has been appointed executive managing director and general counsel at Saunders & Associates, an independent real estate firm with offices in Bridgehampton and Southampton Village. Saunders is known for its exclusive listings in some of the most posh Hamptons neighborhoods.

“It’s a real honor to be able to use the skills and knowledge I have,” said Ms. Quigley, formerly a partner with the law firm of Farrell Fritz.

As the deputy supervisor of the Town of East Hampton for four years and a former town attorney, Ms. Quigley was able to offer the town her legal expertise on a variety of land use issues. She will now advise Saunders on real estate, zoning and permitting among other legal matters.

Ms. Quigley had worked for Farrell Fritz for more than two decades. She started at Payne, Wood & Littlejohn in 1992 and stayed on after the company merged with Farrell Fritz in 2001 to become Long Island’s second-largest law firm.

“It was a difficult decision to leave Farrell Fritz,” Ms. Quigley said Monday. “It’s a great office. I’ve had a long history with them that has been mutually beneficial. But life offers new challenges.”

The firm’s president, Andrew Saunders, said he is looking forward to his company having the advantage of Ms. Quigley’s legal expertise.

“I have worked on many transactions with Theresa and admire her ability to create consensus in difficult negotiations,” he said. “Theresa is a proven deal-maker, and her skill set and experience will assist our agents in moving their transactions forward.”

As a practicing attorney for three decades, beginning in 1983 in New York City, Ms. Quigley has worked primarily in counseling clients on residential real estate transactions. She has counseled several real estate companies, including Alan Schneider Associates and Cook Pony Farm, both Hamptons agencies with high-end listings. As an attorney-at-law, Ms. Quigley also advised HANFRA, an association that serves East End Realtors.

Ms. Quigley is currently dividing her time between the Bridgehampton and Southampton Village Saunders offices. She will later manage the East Hampton office when it opens sometime this year. The company has not set a specific date for the opening of the new branch.

Is the Theresa Quigley that was on the EH Town Board her evil twin?

Clearly no one at Saunders ever bothered to watch a tape of a town board meeting.
