UPDATE: Police Identify Victim Of Fatal Shooting During Home Invasion Burglary

Dec 9, 2013 9:27 AM

UPDATE: 4 p.m.

Suffolk County Police have identified the man killed in an Eastport home invasion Saturday night as Francisco Pirir. Mr. Pirir, 45, died from a shotgun blast to the face after two men forced their way into the home Mr. Pirir and six other men shared on East Moriches Boulevard.

According to Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick of the Suffolk County Police homicide squad, the two men forced their way into the home at about 3:25 a.m., blowing the door's lock off with a blast of the shotgun and then kicking in the door. Mr. Pirir and another man were in the living room of the house. The other man was also hit in the hand with pellets from a shotgun blast. He was taken to a local hospital and treated and released.

Lt. Fitzpatrick said the two men were both wearing masks and fled on foot following the shooting. They are described as both about 5-feet 10-inches and thin. Police are asking that anyone with information about the crime call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-Tips

UPDATE: 11:45 a.m.

Suffolk County Police have confirmed that two people were shot, one fatally, during a burglary at an Eastport home early Sunday morning.

A police spokesperson said that detectives were told that two men broke into the home at about 3:25 a.m. and demanded money from the tenants. At some point during the burglary shots rang out, killing one of the tenants and wounding another in the hand.

The burglars then fled and have not been apprehended. Suffolk Police said they will release more information about the suspects later today.

UPDATE: 11:25 a.m.

Area residents say that at least two people were shot at a house on the corner of Montauk Highway and East Moriches Boulevard in East Moriches. Police have yet to confirm the shooting or how many people, if any, were killed but Suffolk Police homicide detectives were on the scene this morning.

Neighbors expressed shock at the violence Sunday morning.

"It's a shame, the guys there are nice, they're in the store all the time," said Theresa Citarelli, owner of Citarelli's Deli, across the street from where the shooting took place.

Another neighbor, Nick Haff, said the incident and two other recent crimes in the usually quiet neighborhood was nerve wracking.

"Between this, the robbery at the gas station here and the hit and run, it's been a crazy year," he said. "I mean, this is a small town. This kind of stuff doesn't happen here, ever."

V. Tomanoku---kind of an insensitive remark considering the fact that a man lost his life., There is a time and place for humor and sarcasm--and this was not it. My condolences to Mr. Piror's family, friends and loved ones. One always hopes that they are safe in their own home.

Well said, thank you. It may be time for 27east to improve the standards for inappropriate comments in my opinion.

I think that someone who posts in several places and publications each time a similar crime occurs to promote their product is shameful. Just research the original post for yourself and your will see what I mean. Its a shame that the editors have not deleted it, and mine for that fact. Your right, my condolences to the victims as well.

Was this a robbery attempt or was Pirir specifically targeted? Most home invasions don't start with a shotgun blast if the intention is robbery. This sounds like a hit.

I had the same thought, it was a hit. Burglars are usually silent, in and out. Home invasions seem to be after specific things that the thieves know would be there - cash, jewelry, drugs - and surprise is usually their weapon, not a shotgun blast to a front door. What was it that these invaders wanted at 3 am? What was taken? Why that house?

There was a home invasion in North Sea a few weeks ago. They said it was a shotgun and a pistol. 2 dudes and they took an envelope with cash. Sounds like the same thugs who somehow know these folks have money. Scarey stuff!!! Arm your selves the police cant be everywhere. Should the unfortunate occurr give them everything thats why we have insurance.

"Check back with 27east.com for updates." Well, been doing that. Have there been any? This is a disturbing event. It would be good to know more about it.

Take care of yourself and your families. Think security in layers. Motion lights, alarm system, barking dog, maybe some cameras and a good weapon that you know how to use. Give the appearance that you are prepared and criminals will think twice about entering your house.
