The life of Samuel J. Spielberg, 31, will be remembered at a memorial service at Ashawagh Hall in Springs from 3 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27.

In lieu of flowers, his family has asked that donations be sent for a scholarship fund for his 6-year-old daughter, Bianca Mar Spielberg. They can be addressed to Mr. Spielberg’s father, Jason Spielberg, with “For Bianca” on the memo line and sent to Bianca Spielberg, 16 Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road, East Hampton, NY 11937.

Update: Monday, 10:15 a.m.

The occupant of the vehicle in a fatal crash in Amagansett on Friday night has been identified as Samuel J. Spielberg, 31, of Springs, according to East Hampton Town Police. The accident is still under investigation, police said Monday morning.

Original story:

A fiery crash on Red Dirt Road in Amagansett on Friday night claimed the life of the driver, according to East Hampton Town Police.

Responding to a call at about 11:30 p.m., police and Amagansett Fire Department crews found a 2002 Toyota 4Runner on fire off the roadway west of Old Stone Highway. After extinguishing the blaze, rescue crews found a single occupant of the vehicle, deceased.

Police have not identified the crash victim. Investigators say they believe the driver failed to negotiate a curve, struck trees, flipped and caught fire.

Town Police and the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call Town Police at (631) 537-7575.

The photo of father and daughter is touching. The other two do not seem newsworthy at this time IMO.
