Shooting for HBO series underway in area

Sep 17, 2008 3:44 PM

East Hampton resident Barry Sonnenfeld’s Bull Path Productions, Inc. is shooting scenes for a new HBO series “Surburban Shootout” in the area. Crews descended on Amagansett’s Main Street early Wednesday, where scenes were shot outside the Farmers Market. Parking was temporarily barred along the north side of Montauk Highway near the market and Town Police were on hand to keep traffic moving.

Bull Path Productions is paying $20,968.09 for police assistance during the shoot, according to East Hampton Town Clerk Fred Overton. It also is paying a shooting fee of $250 a day for six days to the town and a $100 application fee for its town shooting permit. Bull Path also has a permit to shoot in Southampton Town, including Main Street in Bridgehampton. Shooting in the area was scheduled to start September 12 and was to continue through September 26.

Grant Wilfley Casting has advertised on the internet for local people to sign on as production assistants and extras. It held open casting calls at East Hampton Studios in Wainscott in late August.

Based on a British series that was picked up in the U.S. by women’s cable channel Oxygen, “Suburban Shootout” is “a dark comedy about a woman caught between two rival gangs of homicidal housewives,” according to the Hollywood Reporter. Kelly Preston plays Camilla, leader of one of the gangs. Judy Greer plays the woman who moves from the city to the suburbs and finds herself in the middle of the killer-housewife rivalry.

It was reported in the Hollywood press in March that HBO had signed on for a pilot but there appears to have been no announcement since then if or when the series will debut on HBO.
