Description Food Politics: How both ethics and choices impact Earth and its inhabitants Conducted by Randy Johnston This three-part series is intended to create discussions of issues related to: helping preserve our planet for future generations; food ethics and politics; leading healthier lifestyles environmentally; food supply issues; and animal rights. The series is intended to be discussion based. Topics will include: Politics and the Food Industry Genetically Modified Foods in the United States (and in other countries) Processed Food Ingredients in the United States (and in other countries) Fisheries Depletion, Fisheries Bycatch, and Fish Mislabeling Processed Food Mislabeling Water Pollution (ocean, river, lake, stream) Food Choice and Human Health Food Choice and Environmental Health Food Choice and Animal Health Food and Food Packaging Waste Randy Johnston taught accounting and business ethics courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels at five universities. Randy has left business school education to pursue creating awareness of environmental issues as well as animal and human rights issues. His motivation to pursue this was driven by student feedback regarding topics that were covered in his ethics classes, topics which changed the lives of many students as well as the lives of many of their friends and family members. He was involved with the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board’s original draft of the sustainability reporting standards applicable to the meat, dairy and poultry industries as well as the processed food industries. He earned a Master of Education degree from St. Lawrence University, Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting from Clarkson University, and a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University. He received teaching awards at the University of Colorado Boulder and The Pennsylvania State University. Saturday 10/19, 10/26, and 11/2 1-3 PM at The East Hampton Library
