Aldo Leopold’s Land Ethic and the Development of Modern Environmental Ethics: Adults/Teens
Presenter: Wes Triani, trained Leopold Foundation Land Ethic Leader, master educator for Leave No Trace—Tread Lightly, & recipient of the William T. Hornaday Badge for Conservation given by the Boy Scouts of America to recognize those who have made a significant contribution to conservation.

Come take a journey with Wes Triani and experience a “land ethic,” a concept set forth by Aldo Leopold in his classic, bestselling book A Sand County Almanac. A “land ethic” is Leopold’s most enduring idea—the moral responsibility of humans to care for people and the earth by changing the role of humans from conquerors of the land-community to members of it. First, there will be a viewing of the documentary Green Fire, based on the life and writings of Aldo Leopold (considered by many to be the most important conservationist of the 20th century), followed by a discussion with Wes of Leopold’s philosophy and the importance of his ideas to today’s environmental movement.

SOFO Members: Programs are free unless otherwise specified. Non-Members: Adults $15, Children $10 (Ages 3-12), Ages 2 & under free. This fee includes admission to the museum, in addition to the program.

Advanced reservations are required for all events. For more information, reservations, and directions to meeting places, please call: (631) 537-9735.
