Furnishing the Colonial Revival House

This event requires registration, see below

when:
  • Sat, Jul 27, 2019 4:00 PM
where:
Rogers Mansion
17 Meeting House Lane
Southampton
details:
The opening of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum in 1924 inspired an enormous interest in decorating American homes with antiques in historic settings. Speaker Cynthia V.A. Schaffner is an independent decorative arts historian who has been affiliated with the American Wing of The Metropolitan Museum of Art as a research associate and research volunteer since 1996. In an era of staggering social change, many Americans found comfort in filling their homes with furniture and decorative arts that symbolized idealized notions of the American colonial past. In her talk, Ms. Schaffner will focus on Southampton to tell the story of the decorative arts and furniture that have come to represent American Colonial Revival taste.
